Nepenthes x Hookeriana is a well-known and common natural hybrid of two classic lowland pitcher plants: Nepenthes ampullaria and Nepenthes rafflesiana. Named after the British botanist Joseph Dalton Hooker, this vigorous cross can be found growing in the wild throughout the lowlands of Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, and Sumatra where its parent species co-exist. The pitchers are typically squat and bulbous, exhibiting a range of beautiful colors from green with brick-red speckles to dark, mesmerizing striping on the peristome (lip). This easy-to-grow plant displays the best traits of its parentage, thriving in warm, humid, lowland to intermediate conditions.
