Sarracenia Purpurea also known as "The Purple Pitcher Plant" is an easy growing form of Sarracenia with low forming pitchers. It grows natively in the Southeastern United States. The pitchers it produces can last for years and as they mature turn a dark red/purple. Additionally, if you get up close, you can see some of the mesmerizing tactics that the Sarracenia uses to keep its prey inside -- its downward pointing hairs.
These clones are non-specific varieties but we have found that they are producing beautiful veining much like the Venosa variant.
In terms of dormancy, this Sarracenia will typically keep many of its pitchers throughout the winter months and also manages to need a shorter dormancy period. Grows great in full sun and warmer climates.
These come pre-potted with sphagnum moss in a 3.5" pot.

Care Instructions
Light
Sarracenia love full sun and will show their best features in the sun – especially in the summer for many.
Water
- Must be constantly wet (sitting in a tray of water – 1-inch or so is good).
- Only use distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water. Do not use purified water. Any water with > 50 PPM TDS will kill your plant over time. Filtered water is often not filtered enough for these plants.
Temperature
They will thrive nearly year-round in the conditions we have in Florida and will generally experience 3-4 months of dormancy in the winter. You can leave them outside during this time. Trimming pitchers during this time is recommended. Humidity should be 50%+.
Fertilizer
Fertilizer isn't required, but can help with growth and developing larger pitchers. Fertilize in the evening every 2 weeks with ¼ teaspoon of MaxSea 16-16-16 mixed with 1-gallon of water. Spray the leaves and a quick spritz inside of a trap or two. You can feed live bugs, but generally they will catch what they attract.
